Gold Megillah Looks to Stamp Ticket to Blue Grass in Rushaway

March 23, 2012 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

Gold Megillah takes on seven other starters in the 1 1/16-mile Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park on Saturday, hoping to parlay two recent in-the-money finishes in allowance company into victory for the black and gold.

Jockey John Velazquez will be in the saddle aboard our 3-year-old son of Purim, who was third last time out in a Feb. 25 turf allowance at Gulfstream Park (promising Repole Stable contender Our Entourage was the winner). Trainer H. Graham Motion said our colt is doing well physically and has been on his toes training up to this start.

“He fits very well with this bunch and will be ridden by one of the nation’s best jockeys,” Motion said. “I’d say he has a great shot at moving up the ladder in this race.”

Gold Megillah is amongst 180 horses nominated to the April 14 Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, and would need a big effort in the Rushaway to punch his ticket. We’re excited to get him onto the synthetic surface at Turfway.

Turfway’s $75,000 Rushaway is race eight on a 12-race Vinery Spiral Stakes (G3) card, with an estimated post time of 4:40 p.m. ET. Gold Megillah breaks from post six.
