Gold Megillah Returns to Turf in Preakness Day Undercard Race

Partners are en route to Baltimore to see Gold Megillah, WPT’s 3-year-old son of Purim, compete in the $100,000 James Murphy Stakes on Saturday’s Preakness Stakes undercard.

Trained by Kentucky Derby winning trainer, Graham Motion, Gold Megillah returns to the turf after two solid efforts in stakes races on the Polytrack in Kentucky.

“This horse always tries hard,” says Motion. “The past few weeks he’s really been full of himself in the mornings. He’s a versatile horse who’s run well on dirt, turf, and synthetic.”

Since breaking his maiden by 18 ½ lengths in the slop at Churchill in November, Gold Megillah has hit the board three times in his last five races. It’s been quite a ride for his Partners, who have travelled to New York, Kentucky, Florida, and now Maryland to see this talented horse compete.

“This horse has been knocking on the door to win a stakes race,” said WPT president Terry Finley. He really moved forward on the Polytrack, but also ran two rock solid races on the turf at Gulfstream this winter. Many of his Partners are enjoying their experience with him. He’s taken them up and down the East Coast, and has proven himself to be a stakes competitor. It’s fun to run on one of the biggest days of racing in this country. Our sights are sight on one of the big money three-year-old turf races this summer, the Virginia Derby in particular.”

Gold Megillah is number 10 of 12 in Saturday’s James Murphy. Race nine goes off 3:53 ET. Hall of Fame rider
John Velazquez is in the irons.

Good luck to Gold Megillah and his Partners!
