Toasting Becomes Third WPT 2YO Winner of 2012

WPT Partners were toasting to a victory, after the 2-year-old filly Toasting became WPT’s third juvenile winner of 2012 in breaking her maiden in a one-mile maiden special weight on Sunday at Belmont.

Trained by Tom Albertrani, Toasting put up two solid efforts at Saratoga after being purchased by the WPT buying team at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. A daughter of versatile sire Congrats, the extra distance played to her benefit.

Breaking from post four, Toasting rated well in hand in the early going under Joel Rosario. Rosario nudged her along on the far turn, and she responded, gaining steadily on the leader, and edging away in the final sixteenth.

“We were encouraged by her races at Saratoga, and thought she’d improve going a mile,” said Albertrani. “She trained very well since her last start, and I think we’ve only brushed the surface in terms of how far she can go.”

WPT Vice President Tom Bellhouse joined happy Partners and the Albetrani team in the winner’s circle after the victory. “This filly’s progress as a two-year-old is very reminiscent of our graded stakes winner Justwhistledixie a few years back,” said Bellhouse. “She jumped through all of our hoops at the sale and has improved in every start. Joel thinks there’s even more in the tank.”

Juveniles carrying the black and gold silks are finding the winners’ circle at a 30% clip and hitting the board in 50% of their starts thus far in 2012.
