Bellamy Wins at Aqueduct

November 19, 2012 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

WPT’s 3-year-old colt Bellamy broke his maiden by seven lengths against statebred competition on Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct.

Ridden by five pound apprentice, Jose Ortiz, Bellamy broke alertly and set the pace while under some pressure. He widened his lead on the turn, and kept rolling down the lane to score.

Partner Steve T. watched the race at home before sending us a message that brought a smile to our faces:

My parents (92 years) and I celebrated Thanksgiving today.  I was able to set up live streaming on their computer and we watched in awe as Bellamy ran his best race so far.  It was such a total thrill. He just needed extra time.  It was absolutely one of the moments of our lives.  Thank you!!!!!!

“Kudos to Tom for trying something different with this horse and putting the bug boy on,” said Terry. “He’d been an underachiever in the afternoons until this race, so it’s nice to see him finally put everything together.”

Bellamy is expected to run back at Aqueduct in a few weeks.
