Three WPT Winners Over Long Weekend
WPT Partners stood in the winner’s circle three times over the long weekend. The red hot brothers, Jose and and Irad Ortiz, Jr. guided two horses to victory wearing the black and gold silks. WPT runners are winning at a 29% clip and hitting the board at 64% so far this year.
Bellamy’s second career victory came on Sunday with Aqueduct’s leading rider, five point apprentice Jose Ortiz aboard. The 4-year-old son of Bellamy Road engaged in a speed duel in the early stages of the race before edging past his rival in the stretch.
Quality Lass wheeled back in a starter allowance at Parx on Monday, leading from gate to wire and drawing away with only mild urging for trainer Guadalupe Preciado. This Ontario-bred daughter of Exclusive Quality now has career earnings over $102,000.
Awesome Vision’s victory on Monday was....awesome.
Reunited with jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. Awesome Vision was making his second start off a layoff at the “Big A.” Per his usual running style, he settled well off the pace before making a bold run on the turn and prevailing by over three lengths. Bred in the Empire State and trained by Tom Albertrani, Awesome Vision has three career victories from five starts, and will likely come back in an open first level allowance next time -- where he will run for over $80,000 in purse money.
“What a neat horse this is,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “I love the turn of foot he showed on Monday. We knew he was going to ‘need a race’ last time out after recovering from surgery early last year, but knew he’d be dangerous second time off the layoff while stretching back out around two turns.”
Congratulations to all Partners!
