West Point Thoroughbreds and St. Elias Stable have purchased an interest in promising 3-year-old Ground Transport from owners Jeffrey Yingling, Nixon, Martin, Frank Carl Calabrese, and Marette Farrell.

Trained by Mike Stidham, the son of Big Brown is probable for the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (G2) on March 30 at Fair Grounds following an allowance win around two turns on February 23.

“It’s very exciting for us to be involved with a colt who has a legitimate chance to step onto the Kentucky Derby radar,” says West Point Thoroughbreds president Terry Finley. “He’s in great hands, has improved in every start, and is proven around two turns.”

Kentucky-bred Ground Transport is out of the Broad Brush mare Extry. Extry is out of the Mr. Prospector mare Prospector’s Fire who is a half sister to graded stakes winners Fire the Groom Stravinsky, and Moscow Ballet.

Consigned to the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale by River Bend Farm, E.J. Sipus Jr. purchased Ground Transport for $40,000. The colt was a $75,000 RNA at the 2012 Keeneland April 2-Year-Old in Training Sale.

West Point Thoroughbreds purchased Kentucky Oaks contender Flashy Gray at the 2012 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
