Flashy Sunrise Wins Third Race of 2013
Flashy Sunrise also known as “big grey” crossed the wire first for the third time this year on Saturday at Churchill Downs. His career earnings now stand at just under $170,000.
Off as the favorite in the field of seven, jockey Shaun Bridgmohan immediately put Flashy Sunrise right into the race since the early fractions weren’t overly swift. He took the lead leaving the second turn and dug in gamely to prevail by a head.
“He ran his eyeballs out today,” said Bridgmohan. “He broke good for me today and nobody was gunning for the lead, so I knew I had to put him in the mix. I thought the other horse might run right by me down the lane, but my horse was stubborn.”
It’s been a big month for trainer Dallas Stewart. The Louisiana native saddled Kentucky Derby runner up Golden Soul just a week prior to Flashy Sunrise’s victory.
“I just love Flashy,” said Stewart. “He’s bigger, better, and stronger than ever and I’m proud of him. He’s gone from a maiden to a stakes quality horse in just a few short months.”
