Toasting Takes on 4 in Mother Goose (G1)

June 22, 2013 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

Off a solid third place finish in the May 17 Black Eyed Susan at Pimlico, WPT’s 3-year-old filly Toasting takes a shot in Saturday’s $300,000 Mother Goose (G1) at Belmont Park.

A daughter of Congrats, Toasting wore blinkers for the first time in the Black Eyed Susan, and earned a career best Beyer Speed Figure (84). The shades made her more engaged in the race early on and she really dug in down the lane.

Toasting broke her maiden over the Belmont strip for trainer Tom Albertrani in September. Jockey Luis Saez is back aboard after guiding her to an allowance victory in March at Gulfstream Park.

“Our filly is training well, and if she runs the same race she did in the Black Eyed Susan, she could be right there,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “The blinkers certainly moved her up. Dreaming of Julia will be very tough to beat if she brings anywhere close to her best, but it’s not often you find a a grade one with a five horse field. Our filly has shown she can compete with the best in the division.”

Heavy favorite Dreaming of Julia is by A.P. Indy out of the WPT’s grade one winner Dream Rush.

The Mother Goose is race 10 with post time at 5:49 ET.
