Rock Me Baby Wins 4th Race of 2013
Rock solid is Rock Me Baby. West Point Thoroughbreds’ talented 4-year-old son of Rock Hard Ten won for the fifth time in his career on Saturday at Del Mar.
Under regular rider Edwin Maldonado, “Rocky” was dispatched as the favorite in the second level allowance field. He broke well and assumed a comfortable stalking position off a quick early pace before swinging wide at the top of the stretch, taking over the lead at the eighth pole, and prevailing.
“He’s an amazing horse,” said trainer Craig Dollase. “He rebounds out of his races so quickly and thrives on activity.”
WPT president Terry Finley applauds Dollase’s conditioning of Rock Me Baby. “We’ve managed this horse in somewhat of an unconventional manner,” said Finley. “Unlike most horses, he doesn’t require a lot of rest between races. The amount of versatility he’s shown between surfaces and distances is really neat.”
The year end goal for Rock Me Baby is the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in early November. He has a win and a second from two tries over the downhill turf course at Santa Anita.
Rock Me Baby has a record of 5-4-1 from 10 lifetime starts. Saturday’s win pushed his career earnings to over $260,000.
