Suns Out Guns Out Stamps Ticket to BC Marathon
Suns Out Guns Out stamped his ticket to the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon on November 1 at Santa Anita with a decisive win in a $100,000 Parx allowance race over the weekend.
The Dale Romans trainee was fourth in the September 2 Greenwood Cup over a sloppy track before finding the winner’s circle in his second attempt on the Bensalem, PA oval.
Under Julien Leparoux, SOGO essentially lead from gate to wire in the one mile dirt event, drawing away by four lengths in the stretch.
“Suns Out Guns Out is a big, hard trying, sound horse who has run good numbers in his career,” said Romans. “He’s improved as a four-year-old, but hadn’t had a breakout race until today. Robby (Albarado) rode him in the Greenwood Cup when he finished a pretty good fourth and thought he’d be right there over a fast track. This horse galloped out really strong that day after running a mile and a half.”
By Empire Maker out of the Smart Strike mare Angel Arch, there’s plenty of stamina influence in Suns Out Guns Out’s pedigree.
The 1 3/4 mile Marathon is the first Breeders’ Cup race on Friday, November 1. It kicks off a fun weekend of world championship racing in California. Click here for a list of contenders for the race.
