Empire Dreams Breaks Maiden, Pointing for NY-Bred Stake
NY-bred Empire Dreams broke his maiden on Sunday under Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez for trainer Tom Albertrani.
After getting bumped at the break and sitting second for the first half mile, the 2-year-old son of Patriot Act came under a ride, drew alongside the leader, and edged clear in the lane.
“This horse was incredibly on his toes in the paddock,” said WPT COO Tom Bellhouse. “We wanted to go longer with him but the race didn’t go. He showed today he’s plenty capable of sprinting and won in solid racehorse time.”
An OBS April 2-Year-Old in Training purchase, Empire Dreams is now under consideration for the $150,000 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes for NY-bred 2-year-olds run at seven furlongs on the dirt on NY-bred showcase day, Saturday, October 19 at Belmont.
