Spooky Woods Ships to Oaklawn for Fantasy

April 12, 2017 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

Spooky Woods shipped to Arkansas on Tuesday and is entered in Friday’s $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the daughter of Ghostzapper exits a third-place finish behind stablemate Unique Bella in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) on March 4 at Santa Anita. She broke her maiden on January 20 after finishing a close second to stakes winner Mopotism.

Says West Point president Terry Finley, “Even with the defection of Unique Bella from the Santa Anita Oaks, the race attracted a very good field, as you would expect for a grade one. The logistics worked out well, and we knew we could get out to Arkansas on a direct flight and face an easier field. Our filly is improving and on paper is definitely a live contender in here. We’re excited to be back at Oaklawn. In 2013 Flashy Gray ran in the Honeybee and the track took great care of our Partners.”

The West Point buying team purchased Spooky Woods at the 2016 Barretts March 2-Year-Old in Training Sale.

What’s in a name? Spooky Woods is a play off the filly’s pedigree. She’s by Ghostzapper out of the Forestry mare Winter Forest.

Post time for the Fantasy is 4:42 CT. Spooky Woods breaks from post 10 under regular pilot Flavien Prat.
