Street Surrender Wins Southern Truce Stakes
Versatile filly Street Surrender became a stakes winner with a score in the $75,000 Southern Truce Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita. She also gave 19-year-old apprentice jockey Evin Roman the first stakes win of his career.
The daughter of Street Boss has really rounded into form for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, finding the winner’s circle four times in her last six starts. She was second in the Golden Poppy Stakes on turf at Golden Gate Fields on May 13 and the Santa Lucia Stakes on dirt on June 4.
“Jerry and his team have done an unbelievable job with Street Surrender,” said West Point president Terry Finley. “Her first try around two turns back in May of 2016 was a total disaster; she was was very rank and finished last by a long way. Shipping up North for a few months did her a world of good, and she’s learned to relax. Congratulations to our Partners. They’ve shown patience and kept the faith in her as she’s developed. We had a great group of people in the winner’s circle with her.”
The West Point Thoroughbreds buying team purchased Street Surrender at the 2015 OBS April 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
Take a look at the filly as a 2-year-old. What caught our eye the most is her long, flowing stride and how well she bellied down in her breeze:
