Berned Seeks Graded Win in Delaware Oaks (G3)

July 06, 2017 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

West Point Thoroughbreds, 3C Stables, and Robert Masiello’s filly Berned seeks her first graded stakes win in Saturday’s $300,000 Delaware Oaks (G3).

Transferred to Graham Motion following a start in the Starlet Stakes (G1) in December at Los Al, the daughter of Bernardini returned off a layoff to score impressively in a Monmouth allowance race on May 20. As a 2-year-old, she was second to Miss Sky Warrior in the Tempted Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct.

“The plan was to to sprint her off a five-month layoff, but the race didn’t go,” said Motion. “We took a shot and went two turns and ran huge; I was very impressed. This race just seems like a great fit for her. It is local, and it will give her plenty of time after her first start of the season.”

Berned breaks from post five in the field of six 3-year-old fillies under Feargal Lynch. Post time for the Delaware Oaks is 6:35 ET. She’ll likely be the third choice in the wagering behind Black Eyed Susan winner Actress and California invader It Tiz Well.

West Point Thoroughbreds purchased Berned at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The sweetheart filly is a barn favorite.
