Two West Point 2YOs Heading to Breeders’ Cup
With a second place finish in the $200,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (G3) over the weekend at Belmont, West Point Thoroughbreds’, Tango Uniform Racing’s, and Robert Masiello’s Best Performance stamped her ticket to Del Mar for the $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).
Trained by Christophe Clement, the daughter of Broken Vow has been incredibly consistent and figures to be one of the most seasoned runners in the Breeders’ Cup. After breaking her maiden in May at Belmont, she’s been second in four straight stakes races.
The West Point buying team purchased Best Performance at the Fasig-Tipton 2-Year-Old in Training Sale at Gulfstream Park earlier this year.
Congratulations to all of her Partners, including those involved in our Young Professionals Initiative!

West Point will also be represented in the $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) with Untamed Domain, winner of the Summer Stakes (G2) on September 16 at Woodbine. With the Summer being a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge race, the Graham Motion trainee earned an automatic berth to the World Championships.
Partners celebrating thier colt's win in the Summer Stakes:
By Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom, Untamed Domain was purchased at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
“We’ve never had a two-year-old in the Breeders’ Cup, so it’s really exciting to head to Del Mar with not one, but two live shots in Juvenile races,” says West Point president Terry Finley. “Untamed Domain is still quite green but finished so powerfully in the Summer. We love the spacing coming into the Breeders’ Cup with him. The filly is just a sweetheart around the barn and brings it every time she runs. It’s pretty cool that she’s run so well on both dirt and turf. Graham and Christophe knocked it out of the park with these two.”
West Point Partners from across the country are gearing up for their trips to Del Mar. We expect a record number of owners to attend a huge weekend of racing “where the turf meets the surf.”
