Well, it's finally here - Derby Week. We've been going as a company to Louisville for the first Saturday in May for the last 12 years. Our first one was in 1997 when Silver Charm got up by a small head in a thrilling race.
Every year when I arrive at Churchill I look forward to the feeling I get when I see the twin spires for the first time from the backstretch. What a feeling - pure awe reflecting on all the owners and trainers over the last 140 years who looked at those same twin spires and dreamed of basking in the glory beneath them.
This year we are set to run our first Oaks runner, Justwhistledixie. Take a look at her page http://www.kentuckyoaks.com/2009/racing-information/contenders/justwhistledixie. We think she fair well against the big favorite Rachel Alexandra. We've beat everybody we've run against this year and so has Rachel. Let the best filly wear the lilies late on Friday afternoon. The race is on the Bravo Channel from five to six.
Our friend Mr. Fantasy came back from a brief break yesterday with a huge effort in winning the Withers at Aqueduct on Saturday. We have so many options with him over the six months. One of the most talented horses ever to run under the black and gold. Take a look at his effort - http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/race/USA/aqu/2009/4/25/9/withers-s
Of course we can't forget about our big shot four year-old Macho Again. He'll be odds on in the Alysheba Stakes on Friday at Churchill in a prep for the Grade One Foster. He's never trained or acted better.
This week typifies all that is good about thoroughbred racing. Hope you enjoy it as much as I intend to.
Have a good week.
