This colt was part of the "first wave" of 2-year-olds to depart Crupi's New Castle Farm in Ocala and is now with Gary Gullo at Belmont Park.
Where did we find this "gem?" Following the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred Sale, West Point purchased a minority interest in this dynamite Gemologist colt. He will race under St. Elias Stable, Bob Peterson Racing, and West Point Thoroughbreds.
Gemologist is one of the most exciting young stallions around. He’s by the amazing racehorse and sire Tiznow, and was one of the most talented two and 3-year-olds of 2011 and 2012. After winning three straight races as a 2-year-old, including the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, his most notable victory came in the 2012 Wood Memorial (G1), where he fended off Alpha by just a neck.
Gemologist's first foals are 3-year-olds of this year, amongst them are Frizette (G1) winner Yellow Agate and Todd Pletcher's Theory.
The first foal of a Stormy Atlantic mare, the colt’s second dam produced the tough as nails multiple stakes winning New York-bred Saratoga Snacks.
