She broke on top and never looked back. West Point Thoroughbreds’ three-year-old daughter of Silver Train, Silver Gem, broke her maiden over the Gulfstream green on Monday afternoon. Breaking from post 3 in the 12 horse field, Silver Gem was confidently handled by jockey Jose Lezcano in the five furlong contest and scored by two lengths while stopping the clock in 56.81. Trainer Jason Servis said, “This filly really benefited from the slightly softer competition. We put in her in this 35k maiden claiming race hoping to get her confidence up, and it paid off. She moves well over the turf.”
“My filly did everything perfectly,” said jockey Jose Lezcano. “She broke sharp and kept running hard the entire way. This was a good spot for her.”
Silver Gem earned $11,400 for her maiden breaking score. Look for her to run back against winners in March at Gulfstream.
