Breaking from the rail, Sultry Cat did not get off to a great start, lunging out and causing him to get off to an awkward beginning. However, Sultry Cat quickly moved into contention as he was edged out from the rail. Sultry Cat sat fourth, about three lengths off the lead after a quarter-mile that went in 22.1. Sultry Cat continued to advance on the outside, drawing within a half-length of the pacesetter after a half-mile in 46.1. Sultry Cat assumed command at the lead of the stretch and drew off to a length and a quarter score. The final time for the races was 1:11.3 and Sultry Cat collected $27,300 for the effort.
