WPT’s 3-year-old filly TOASTING ran a game third in Friday’s $500,000 Black Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) at Pimlico Racecourse.

Equipped with blinkers for the first time, the daugher of Congrats prompted the pace early before finishing willingly behind the highly regarded Fiftyshadesofhay.

“She tried really hard today,” said trainer Tom Albertrani. “Javier (Castellano) thought the blinkers really helped her. The top two ran great races, but it was nice to see this filly dig in at the sixteenth pole and keep trying.”

WPT president Terry Finley was also very pleased with the effort. “It was sort of a last minute decision to come to Baltimore with Toasting,” he said. “We were originally pointing for a turf race later in the month, but shifted gears after handicapping the Black Eyed Susan. She trained well since shipping up from Florida, and we thought it was a good opportunity to take a shot.”

Toasting now has earnings of $193,350 from eight career starts.
