Tony Granitz is one of the leading trainers at Indiana Grand, where purse money is abundant for horses bred in the Hoosier State. Granitz oversaw the richest Indiana-bred in history, a filly named Lady Fog Horn who not only scored 11 times at the track outside Indianapolis, but also prevailed in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs. In all, Lady Fog Horn banked more than $825,000.
A Chicago native, Granitz saddled his first winner in 1984. He has raced extensively in the Windy City, winning the Grade 3 Hawthorne Derby twice and the Grade 3 Hawthorne Handicap in 1991. He sends a string of horses to Tampa Bay Downs every winter.
Indiana Grand entrusts Granitz with horses who are part of the track’s Grand Gesture stable for new owners.
