WPT’s graded stakes winning gelding Twilight Eclipse is set to make his 2013 debut in Saturday’s $150,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park. Freshened by trainer Tom Albertrani after a win in the W.L. McKnight Handicap (G2) in November at Calder, our son of Purim couldn’t be training any better and is poised for another big effort.
“My riders have been having a hard time pulling this horse up after his breezes lately,” said Tom Albertrani. “We gave him some time to recharge his batteries after his last race and he’s done super the past few weeks. We’ll look to have the same type of stalking trip we did in the McKnight. Luis Saez fits him well.”

Twilight Eclipse was purchased privately by West Point Thoroughbreds following two wins at Indiana Downs last summer. A sickly yearling, he fetched only $1,000 at the 2010 Keeneland January Sale. Under the black and gold silks he ran three credible efforts before jumping up and scoring in the McKnight.
Terry Finley on Twilight Eclipse:
“I saw Twilight Eclipse this morning and was shocked at how much he’s filled out and developed since I saw him over the summer, continued Terry. “We experimented with the mile and a half distance last time out, and he relished it. With his post we’ll be able to save ground and get comfortable — he rates very kindly. Not too many North American bred horses can handle these types of distances, but this gelding can run all day.”
Twilight Eclipse breaks from the rail in the field of 10 colts and geldings. Second leading rider Luis Saez has the call. Post time for the Mac Diarmida (race 10) is 5:05 ET.
Good luck to all of his Partners!
