Ultimate Empire Breaks Maiden by 13 Lengths / Friday, May 10, 2013

Ultimate Empire broke his maiden in style yesterday, crossing the wire 13 lengths in front in the last at Belmont. Trained by Tom Albertrani, Ultimate Empire was entered main track only for the NY-bred maiden special weight. After rain called for cancellation of turf racing, the son of Utopia (Jpn) drew into the race, run at 1 1/16 miles over the sloppy going.

Under confident handling by jockey Javier Castellano, Ultimate Empire dueled for the lead in the early stages, assumed command around the nine sixteenths pole, inched clear, and was geared down in the final sixteenth.

“Javier got off the horse and said he never really broke out of a gallop,” said Tom Albertrani. “He did it that easy. He’s been knocking at the door to break his maiden, it’s nice to see him finally break through.”

Ultimate Empire earned $36,000 for the victory. He’ll run back in a few weeks in a statebred first level allowance.

Congratulations to his Partners.
