Trained by Dallas Stewart (conditioner of KY Derby second place finisher and Belmont Stakes hopeful Golden Soul), the pretty dark bay daugher of Tale of the Cat was sent off as the favorite in the field of eleven 3-year-old fillies. She was within a length of the lead down the backside before challenging on the turn, taking over at the head of the lane, and drawing away easily. Click here to view the race chart.

“This filly had been a bit of a disappointment in her prior starts,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “We always thought she had some talent, but she just wasn’t finishing. It’s amazing what a drop in class can do for a horse’s confidence.”

On Saturday afternoon, Thunder Quay made his third straight visit to the winner’s circle, with a dominating performance at Parx. After breaking his maiden at Gulfstream earlier this year, he was transferred to Pennsylvania based trainer Guadalupe Preciado, and has been on a roll ever since.

Under Kendrick Carmouche, the son of Circular Quay broke alertly and flashed speed before settling into a stalking position. He advanced to the lead on his own, and drew away under mild handling to win by over six lengths, despite drifting out in the final sixteenth. Click here to see the race chart.

“I knew he was sitting on a good race today,” said Preciado. “He’s been on his toes and very strong in the mornings. He’s still learning. Kendrick (Carmouche) gave him a good ride today.”

“It took some time for the lightbulb to go on with this horse, but he’s put all the pieces together and is in very good form,” said Finley. “After he broke his maiden in Florida, we knew he’d be a very good fit for Parx because of the type of races they write.”

Look for Watercolors and Thunder Quay to be back in the entries in a few weeks. Congratulations to their Partners!
