West Point Thoroughbreds Partner Mike McCallister and his pro playing partner Arron Oberholser earned a share of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am tittle on February 12th. After some early scoting confusion, McCallister was named co-champion when a scoring discrepancy was discovered that pushed McCallister back in front.
McCallister, who is the President and CEO of Humana Inc., has played golf for over forty years. He called the win, “Like riding Secretariat in the Kentucky Derby. Arron was the hot horse, and I just didn’t want to fall off.”
McCallister began getting interested in thoroughbred racing upon moving back to Louisville a decade ago. “I started dabbling in ownership when a friend talked to me about it. He was with West Point, and I got involved.”
McCallister’s first West Point runner, Megapunch, has finished second in each of his first two races.
West Point President Terry Finley said, “I can’t even imagine what a thrill this past weekend was for Mike. What he did would be similar to me jumping on the back of the horse and trying to win a race. He did a great job, and I guess we’ll all be calling him for lessons.”
