WPT: Leading Public Partnership of 2014 / Friday, January 16, 2015

West Point Thoroughbreds led all North American based public partnerships by earnings and stakes wins (11) in 2014.

With runners amassing $4,481,710 in earnings, stable came within $20,000 of our all-time earnings record, which was set in 2007.

The Jockey Club and TOBA’s Thoroughbred Ownerview website lists 62 North American public racing syndicates, and WPT horses earned 985k more than the second leading syndicate.

North American Earnings/Stakes wins for other major partnerships

Dogwood Stable: $1,797,380 (6)

Donegal Racing: $1,258,759 (3

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners: $2,414,523 (3)

Starlight Racing: $1,178,251 (3)

Team Valor International: $1,307,746 (4)

Based on $4.481 million in total earnings, West Point Thoroughbreds was in the top 15 owners nationally.

2014 highlights include the following stakes wins:

  • Twilight Eclipse: Mac Diarmida (G2)

  • Ring Weekend: Tampa Bay Derby (G2)

  • Ring Weekend: Hill Prince (G2) and Saranac (G3) Stakes

  • Quality Lass: Satin and Lace Stakes and Turf Amazon Handicap

  • Ground Transport: Harrison Johnson Memorial and Drosselmeyer Stakes

  • Empire Dreams: New York Derby

  • Toasting: Sky Beauty Stakes

Two other very important highlights were Commanding Curve’s runner-up effort to California Chrome in the $2,000,000 Kentucky Derby (G1) (it’s an out of body experience to see your horse full of steam when they turn for home in the Run for the Roses) and Twilight Eclipse finishing a fast-closing third in the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).

Horses donning the black and gold silks competed in every Triple Crown race in 2014. Twilight Eclipse’s Partners traveled to halfway across the world to see him compete in the Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-1).

“Boy oh boy, 2014 was an incredible year for this company,” said WPT president and founder Terry Finley. “We enjoyed success all over the country and had horses be competitive in some of the best races in the world. We know we have a target on our backs, and we like it that way, as it gives us a reason to get out of bed in the morning. We have a tremendous group of Partners who are a part of the West Point family, and I owe our success to them. Without the support of our Partners, none of this would be possible.”
