WPT/Romans Double on Sunday at Gulfstream / Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Suns Out Guns Out and She’s Justified made it a WPT/Dale Romans double on Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

Suns Out Guns Out, aka “SOGO” around the barn stamped himself as a top contender for the older horse handicap ranks this year with a decisive victory in a third level allowance.

Piloted by Julien Leparoux, Suns Out Guns Out earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure in the one mile event, his first triple digit figure. He’s now pointing for the $1,500,000 Charles Town Classic (G2) run at 1 1/8 miles on the dirt on Saturday, April 19 in West Virginia. This is the richest race in the United States outside of the Kentucky Derby and Breeder’s Cup World Championships.

“He’s really come out firing as a five-year-old,” said Eclipse Award winning trainer Dale Romans. “This horse’s development every year from the time he was a two-year-old is pretty amazing. He’s the kind who can win the Charles Town Classic. We expect to be close to the pace, and despite him being above averaged size, I don’t think he’ll have any problem handling the bullring.”

Four races later, our pretty grey filly She’s Justified relished the lawn and stuck her neck in front in the shadow of the wire under Corey Lanerie.

After breaking from the one hole, the half sister to grade one winner Dance to Bristol stalked the pace from the inside before rallying on the turn, splitting rivals late, and notching the win.

Purchased by Terry Finley at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, She’s Justified will likely head back to the Bluegrass State to run at Keeneland next time out.

“This filly reminds Dale a ton of his grade one winner Tapitsfly,” said Finley. “They’re both grey, but also move similarly. She’s Justified isn’t the tallest filly in the world, but she’s got a ton of heart. You don’t see many many three-year-old fillies who will belly down like that, split horses, and fight to get their neck in front.”
