3 Winners This Week / Friday, September 2, 2016

Three WPT runners have found the winner’s circle in the past week. On Sunday, Street Surrender was much the best in a first level allowance race at Golden Gate Fields. This was a special win, as it was the stable’s 700th and first with Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

The talented daughter of Street Boss settled beautifully for jockey Juan Hernandez before rallying three wide and drawing away in the stretch. Watch the race.

“We brought her up here to try and rebuild her confidence after a few allowance tries in Southern California,” said Hollendorfer. “She was perfect today. The paddock schooling, training with a new jock, and switching surfaces did the trick. I love how she settled beautifully, never fought Juan, and did things so easily.”

The following day, 4-year-old filly Ring Knocker found the winner’s circle for the third time in her career. Piloted by the nation’s leading jockey, Javier Castellano, the daughter of Birdstone had a perfect trip, tracking off the pace, rallying on the outside, and edging clear. Partners and the team celebrated the win with trainer Tony Dutrow, one of the newest members of our training squad. Watch the race.

On Thursday, General Downs would not be denied as the longest shot on the board in a tough maiden special weight at Saratoga. Trained by Dallas Stewart and ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, the son of Mineshaft stalked the pace in the early stages of the nine furlong race. After taking the lead at the top of the stretch it looked like he might be overtaken, but he dug in and was dead game, getting his nose on the wire first. Watch the race.

“Stretching out to a mile and an eighth in just his second start, we’re thrilled with how tenacious he was,” said West Point president Terry Finley. “It looked like the five horse was going to blow right by him, but he found more. Thanks so much to his Partners for their patience. This dude has always shown talent, but it took us a while to get him to the races. Dallas and his team have worked wonders with him and he’s a three-year-old with a bright future.”
