After a wow-inspiring second-place finish in the Southwest Stakes (G3), Sandman will be looking for another strong performance at Oaklawn in the $1.25-million Rebel Stakes (G2) on Sunday. Hopefully it will be with a much smoother beginning than in the Southwest Stakes when Sandman reared and jockey Cristian Torres almost hit the ground, before the colt kicked in with an improbable rally through the stretch.
Sandman is the 4-to-1 morning-line favorite for the Rebel, which was originally scheduled for Saturday but was pushed back a day due to winter weather. The $1.25-million Rebel will offer 50-25-15-10-5 in qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby. Sandman already owns 14 points, which ranks 17th on the leaderboard.

The Rebel will air live on Fox Sports 2 and on FanDuel TV.
West Point had a new 3-year-old winner on Saturday when Yinzer and jockey Keith Asmussen delivered on the front end for the Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen at Fair Grounds. Yinzer broke through in his fourth career start and may have earned himself a Derby prep assignment next time out.
