Good morning,
Sandman is all systems go for the 151st Kentucky Derby! Post time is 6:57 ET for Race 12 at Churchill. NBC will have live coverage from 2:30 to 7:30 ET, also streaming on Peacock. Past performances
Below is some updated race day logistics information.
WPT Derby week info page
- Each named Partner will receive one walkover/paddock pass.
- You may bring one guest for the Walkover. While we cannot provide physical credentials for guests, they can likely join if they stay close to the group. Please note, however, that there is a chance security could stop them before entering the racetrack. The Walkover is an incredible experience that we would like you to share with another person, but there is risk involved knowing credential limitations.
- If you wish to participate in the Derby Walkover (about a half-mile walk on the track), meet Tom Murphy (904) 710-8631 OUTSIDE of the Clubhouse Gate (far right on this map) promptly at 5:10 pm.
- The HBPA van will shuttle the group from the clubhouse to the barn area.
- Ladies on the Walkover — we strongly suggest you bring an extra pair of flat shoes due to the mud.
- Remember that once you leave the facility, you must stick with our group and make the walkover to re-enter Churchill Downs.
- Horses will be called to the mile chute around 5:45 ET. See this image for where you need to be once on the racetrack. Do not try to stay close to the horses in the chute.
- Each named Partner may designate five guests to enter the paddock for race 11 (Turf Classic). A Churchill Downs host will escort a group in and work to position the group out of the tunnel on ground level near the traditional winner’s circle.
- If not doing the Walkover, meet the West Point team at 5:00 ET at the Churchill Downs Store on ground level near the paddock gate/paddock/racing office. Store location shown with a merchandise symbol close to number 13 here.
WHERE TO WATCH THE RACE:
- At the end of the walkover, we recommend remaining on ground level to watch the race trackside (near the traditional winner’s circle). It’s very crowded, and trying to get back to your seats is not viable, especially if we get the job done.
- So if you’re on the walkover, where the horses take a left into the tunnel to the paddock, you’ll peel off and stay in the area of the traditional winner’s circle. West Point Partners watched Always Dreaming win the Derby and Commanding Curve finish second in the Derby — it’s a great spot.
WINNER’S CIRCLE:
- If we get the job done, a WPT representative at the rail at the end of the paddock tunnel will assist you in crossing over the racetrack to the infield. We recommend you stay as close as possible to this area.
- If Sandman wins, there is a reception at the Kentucky Derby Museum after we get our picture taken. See location here.
Regards,
The West Point team
