Conqueror of the 2025 Arkansas Derby (G1) and a lovable face across the Internet, Sandman will return to the stakes ranks Saturday in the $500,000 Razorback (G3) at Oaklawn.
Spelled at the end of 2025, Sandman should move forward after getting in a race on February 7 with a fifth-place finish where he was a bit rusty and had some traffic trouble.
Oaklawn’s leading jockey, Cristian Torres, will take the reins on Sandman in a field of 7 for Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse.
Casse also will send out multiple stakes winner Counting Stars for West Point on Sunday in the $750,000 Honeybee Stakes (G3). Counting Stars swept two in a row at Oaklawn by wide margins in December, then threw in a clunker as the favorite in the Martha Washington Stakes on February 6. Francisco Arrieta will ride her again in the 8 1/2-furlong Honeybee, which offers 50-25-15-10-5 in qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks.
In South Florida, Battle of Normandy will team up with Eclipse Award champ Flavien Prat in Saturday’s $175,000 Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream.
Trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, Battle of Normandy is a Graded stakes-winning 6-year-old with $650,295 in career earnings. He and Prat are 2-for-2 together.
