Maui Strong Ever Strong in 2026 Debut / Friday, June 26, 2026

After a productive winter freshening, Maui Strong announced his return in emphatic fashion Thursday evening at Churchill Downs, rallying to capture a $127,000 allowance on the turf in his first start of 2026.

The Dale Romans trainee showed maturity throughout the race under Luis Saez. Breaking alertly from the rail, Maui Strong established position entering the first turn before allowing favored Honey Dutch to assume command down the backstretch. Saez patiently stalked from the two path, angled the son of Kitten’s Joy into the clear approaching the stretch, and when asked, Maui Strong responded with authority. He surged past the favorite inside the furlong pole and drew clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

Maui Strong kept good company throughout his sophomore season, hitting the board in four stakes, and he had been off since November and was gelded in the interim.

Thursday’s performance suggested that patience has already begun to pay dividends.

Acquired at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale with racing partners Blue Devil Racing Stable and Ed Barker, Maui Strong is by perennial leading turf sire Kitten’s Joy out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Legal Tender. He now owns earnings in excess of $320,000 and appears poised to build on that total as the season progresses.
