Yinzer made it two wins in three starts this year with a front-running victory Thursday evening at Churchill Downs, taking a 1⅛-mile turf allowance by 1½ lengths. The 4-year-old earned a career-best 95 Beyer Speed Figure, and the $81,024 winner’s share lifted his career earnings to $354,008.

With Keith Asmussen aboard, Yinzer broke sharply and cleared the field around the first turn. He opened a four-length lead after a half-mile, remained in hand around the far turn and answered when Asmussen asked him to run in the stretch. Yinzer finished in 1:45.84 over firm turf for trainer Steve Asmussen and owners West Point Thoroughbreds, CJ Stables and Lane’s End.

Keith said he had been concerned about stretching Yinzer out to nine furlongs and wanted to let him settle after the break. “I didn’t want to hustle him out of the gate too much,” he said. “I was just trying not to get this horse too wound up and help him find his rhythm. He took a beautiful breath at the half-mile, and I was able to be gradual from there. The horse ran fantastic.”

Yinzer also won at Saratoga in July and finished third there in August. Thursday’s performance was his fourth career victory from 15 starts.
