Arabian Prince rumbled through the stretch to prevail in his career debut Wednesday at Churchill Downs, kicking off Kentucky Derby week for the combinaton of WPT and Winning Impression’s trainer, Dallas Stewart.
Joe Talamo guided the bay 2-year-old colt, who was purchased at the Saratoga select yearling sale last summer. This year, amid COVID-19, what would be the Saratoga sale catalog will be part of the Fasig-Tipton Showcase in Kentucky next week.
Stewart figured Arabian Prince needed to go at least a mile first-time out and was hardly disappointed when the event was switched from the turf to the main track.
“I need to find a way to get him to the race at Churchill at the end of the November meet, the Kentucky Jockey Club that Tiz the Law ran in last year,” Dallas said. “There’s a lot of things that need to happen between now and then, but I knew going into this one that he was fit and talented, and we spotted him right.”
