Awesome Dame Breaks Maiden at Gulfstream / Friday, January 1, 2016

West Point Thoroughbreds’ 2-year-old filly Awesome Dame broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park on December 27. After breaking sharply and taking command, she maintained her advantage in the stretch despite drifting out under Luis Saez.

The fourth time was the charm for the pretty chestnut filly, who was second in all three of her previous starts. In her second start, she finished just two lengths behind Rachel’s Valentina, daughter of champion Rachel Alexandra.

“Many people skipped right over this filly at the March sale,” said WPT EVP Jeff Lifson. “Awesome of Course has sire some really solid runners, but doesn’t have the same star power as most sires at that sale. She has a long, fluid stride, a big heart, and got the universal thumbs up from our buying team. She reminded us quite a bit of our multiple stakes winner Toasting.”

Trained by Tom Albertrani, Awesome Dame is now under consideration for the $100,000 OBS Champions Stakes run at 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic on Tuesday, January 26 at OBS Training Center in Ocala. The race is restricted to 3-year-old fillies who have passed through an OBS auction ring.

Awesome Dame was purchased for $70,000 by the WPT buying team at the 2015 OBS March 2-Year-Old in Training Sale in Ocala.
