An English-bred and an Indiana-bred, it was graduation time all the same for Bassanio and Run Away Rojo.
Bassanio, acquired and imported from Europe as a yearling, delivered as the odds-on favorite in maiden special weight company Saturday at Laurel in his fourth career start, acing a cutback in distance to a mile for jockey Jorge Ruiz and trainer Arnaud Delacour.
The 4-year-old gelding will be based at Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, Maryland, this spring and summer.
Run Away Rojo obliged at 4-to-5 odds in his third career start Wednesday in a state-bred maiden event at Horseshoe Indianapolis. DeShawn Parker guided him for trainer Dallas Stewart.
West Point acquired Run Away Rojo at the 2022 OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training.
