Cavalry Charge Keeps on Going in Grade 3 Fair Grounds Stakes / Sunday, February 20, 2022

Courageous on the lead, Cavalry Charge and Brian Hernandez Jr. held strong for a 35-1 upset in the $150,000 Fair Grounds Stakes (G3T) on February 19.

Trained by longshot wizard Dallas Stewart, the 5-year-old gelding made all and had plenty left in the tank turning for home, spurting away at the top of the lane and lasting to prevail by a head at the wire.

Cavalry Charge won three times in four starts in 2021 but was dismissed Saturday after struggling on a soft turf course in last month’s Col. E.R. Bradley Stakes at Fair Grounds.

The chestnut son of Honor Code owns five wins in 16 starts and earnings of $394,956. West Point, Rob Masiello and Bill Sandbrook purchased him as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select sale.
