Counting Stars found a seam coming out of the turn and pulled away through the stretch to a 4-length victory Sunday in Oaklawn’s $135,000 Astral Spa Overnight for 2-year-old fillies, becoming a stakes winner in her third career start.
Mark Casse trains Counting Stars. West Point acquired the daughter of Honor A.P. this past April for $150,000 at the OBS spring sale of two-year-olds in training.
Counting Stars dazzled Sunday in similar fashion to her 4-length debut win on September 25 at Churchill Downs.
Francisco Arrieta was in the irons Sunday as she tracked from just off the pace along the inside and poured it on powerfully coming into the lane.
Casse had identified Counting Stars’ prowess dating back to an early breeze where she more than held her own in company with Ewing, who went on to win the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes for West Point and D.J. Stable.
She joins the list of West Point 2-year-old stakes winners in 2025 along with Ewing, She’s Country (Key Cents at Aqueduct), Liberation (Soviet Problem at Los Alamitos) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) champion Super Corredora.
