County Final Flashes to Stakes Win in WPT Debut / Saturday, August 8, 2020

A month after joining the West Point roster as the sale-topper in the Fasig-Tipton July sale, County Final kicked away to a 4 1/4-length victory Saturday in the Tyro Stakes for 2-year-olds at Monmouth Park.

Joe Bravo rode County Final aggressively to keep close to speedy pacesetter Pico Marg. As County Final switched leads and lengthened strides at the top of the stretch, he rushed to the front and bounded away, geared down as he approached the wire.

Bravo said, “We got floated wide but once we straightened out he really extended and did the job. I’d think he could get another furlong or two for sure.”

West Point, Bill Sandbrook and Anna Marie Shannon bought County Final at Fasig-Tipton on July 13 and moved him to the Steve Asmussen barn. He previously won his career debut on turf on June 5 at Churchill Downs and finished second in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor on dirt there on June 27.
