Galilean will pursue a stakes triple Sunday with a return to open company in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile Handicap.
The Cal-bred son of Uncle Mo captured the Soi Phet Stakes on June 27 at Los Alamitos on dirt and the California Dreamin’ Stakes on July 26 at Del Mar in his grass debut.
Sticking to the green stuff, Galilean drew well with post three in Sunday’s field of 11 for a grass course that is kind to horses who are able to save ground. He switches to a jockey, Umberto Rispoli, who has been a revelation on the grass at Del Mar, winning with 17 of 49 mounts (34 percent) in turf races at a mile or farther this meet, including three stakes victories.
Galilean owns five stakes victories overall and finished third in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes on the Triple Crown trail last season for West Point, William Sandbrook, Denise Barker, John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.
His trainer, John Sadler, won the Del Mar Mile in 2007, 2008 and 2018.
