Twirling Candy colt Cugino was purchased by West Point Thoroughbreds at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

He is trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey and co-owned by Jimmy Kahig Racing.

West Point also campaigns his half-brother, graded stakes winner Battle of Normandy.

Cugino broke his maiden at first asking as a 2-year-old and as a 3-year-old placed in two stakes, including the Transylvania (G3T) at Keeneland, before ending the year with a win in the Tropical Park Derby.

As a 4-year-old, he won three races, including back-to-back stakes wins in the Red Bank Stakes and Red Smith (G2T).
