Freedom Child competed against the best of his division before breaking his maiden in March 2013 by five lengths at Gulfstream Park. As a 2-year-old, he was second to Kentucky Derby winner Orb in an Aqueduct maiden special weight while finishing two lengths ahead of Revolutionary.
In his next start, the Wood Memorial, he was declared a non starter after being left in the hands of the starter and losing all chance when the gates opened. A few weeks later, the striking son of Malibu Moon was back with a vengeance.
Under jockey Luis Saez, he crushed a field of sophomores in the 59th running of the $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. Over a sloppy racetrack he crossed the wire 13 1/4 lengths ahead of his nearest rival.
Freedom Child was retired to stud at Country Life Farm in Maryland in August 2013.
