Ohana Honor has some of the coolest facial markings you’ll find on a racehorse. And the 3-year-old Honor Code colt trained by Shug McGaughey has some talent too. Dispatched as the heavy favorite, he won impressively Thursday afternoon at Colonial under Nik Juarez.
Juarez shared a story with West Point CMO Dawn Lenert and Partners in the winner’s circle.
Nik shared this crazy story after his great interview in the winner’s circle. He had us in stitches. He lives in Jersey, so early this morning his family and belongings were all packed up in the family car. However, his young child was ill with a fever, so the family opted out. Nik quickly grabbed some stuff to take in his other car and jumped on the turnpike. Halfway to Colonial, he realizes he left his bag with all his jockey gear in the family car! He knew he couldn’t go back. He’s freaking out to his wife and wondering what he would do. Upon arrival, the jocks at Colonial all rallied to help him out and loaned him all sorts of gear (helmet, goggles, pants, safety vest, boots, crop, etc.) So besides the horse, Nik, and Shug’s team, we have an entire riding colony to thank for their efforts. Of course, he would not have shared this if we lost…and when I said that to him laughingly, he agreed.
