Parnac and Battle of Normandy have prime chances in turf action this weekend as Saratoga winds down and the short Kentucky Downs meet heats up.
European import Parnac is part of a field of just four runners for Saturday’s $500,000, Grade 2 Flower Bowl Stakes (G2T) on the last Saturday card at Saratoga this season. The French-bred filly finished third, beaten less than a length, in the Robert Dick Memorial Stakes (G3T) last time out at Delaware Park. Dylan Davis has the mount in the Flower Bowl, to be contested at a mile and three-eighths. Christophe Clement trains the 4-year-old filly.
Just yesterday, the Clement-trained Carson’s Run finished a strong second on the turf at Saratoga in the Grade 3 With Anticipation Stakes.
On Sunday, Battle of Normandy will go for the green at Kentucky Downs’ all-turf meet, taking on a full field in the $1-million Dueling Grounds Derby (G3T) for sophomores traversing a mile and five-sixteenths. Tyler Gaffalione retains the mount after he and Battle of Normandy finished fourth together in the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby (G1T) on August 5. Shug McGaughey trains the son of City of Light.
