West Point Thoroughbreds will unload barn this weekend with undefeated Integration making his first Grade 1 appearance in Saturday’s $1-million Pegasus Turf, plus Giant Game and Signator are signed on as a tandem in the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper on the Pegasus undercard at Gulfstream.
Integration is 3-to-1 on the morning line for the Pegasus Turf, stepping up after winning the Grade 2 Hill Prince Stakes by five lengths in November at Aqueduct to extend the perfect start to his career that began on August 12. Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the 4-year-old Quality Road colt with post three for the 9-furlong Pegasus Turf.
“It’s a big step up,” said Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. I think we all understand that, but we’ve got to get him going, get him started somewhere and this was kind of the next step. If we can be competitive in here, it can kind of tell us where we need to go. At Aqueduct he broke and he laid about third the whole way, but he could have laid wherever he wanted to. I’m hoping he’ll break like that and put himself in position. Tyler knows this turf course so I’ll leave it up to him. You can’t let yourself get out of position.”
Shug also trains Signator, who drew the far outside post in a full field of 12 for the mile Fred W. Hooper. Javier Castellano retains the mount, having guided Signator to two wins in his last three starts. Giant Game, a Grade 3 winner in 2023, will begin from post 9 with jockey Martin Garcia.
