Reagan’s Honor Rolls Into Blue Grass As Kentucky Derby Contender / Friday, April 3, 2026

Reagan’s Honor is surging at the right time. Fresh off back-to-back victories, the rising 3-year-old colt now steps onto the Road to the Kentucky Derby at 5-to-2 odds for Saturday’s $1.25 million Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland in Lexington.

The cool-headed colt stamped himself as a serious Derby prospect with a commanding 6 ¾-length win in New Orleans on February 19, earning a strong 96 Beyer Speed Figure. Top jockey Jose Ortiz retains the mount as Reagan’s Honor stretches out to nine furlongs in one of the key Derby preps of the spring.

Trained by Cherie DeVaux, Reagan’s Honor is named for DeVaux’s stepdaughter, Reagan Ingordo. Bloodstock agent David Ingordo, Reagan’s father, purchased the colt for $140,000 as a yearling. Ingordo has been instrumental in sourcing talent for West Point Thoroughbreds, including Kentucky Oaks contender Counting Stars, winner of last week’s Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn. Both runners are from the first crop of Honor A.P., the 2020 Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner.

Pedigree adds further intrigue: Reagan’s Honor is out of Rutile, a half sister to 2005 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Giacomo.

Cherie said this week of Reagan’s Honor, “He’s a colt that has the talent. As he’s grown and he trains forwardly he has made steps forward in his training and subsequently on the track. I do think that it’s in him to be a bit faster. He’s going to have to run another top race and then continue on if he does make it into the Derby.”

Saturday’s Blue Grass offers 100-50-25-15-10 Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the top five finishers. With no prior stakes experience, Reagan’s Honor will likely need a first- or second-place finish to secure a spot in the Derby starting gate.

The Blue Grass will be broadcast on NBCSN and streamed on Peacock as part of a 6–7 p.m. ET racing showcase.
