“The Breeders’ Cup definitely crossed our minds after the colt’s maiden score,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “However, we just felt going two turns for the first time against the best two-year-olds in the country was a lot to ask. River Dell could be a top horse on the Triple Crown trail and the Nashua is a logical spot for us to continue his development. He’ll head down to Florida after the race.”
The likely favorite in the race, Mohaymen has a special connection to WPT. He’s by Tapit out of Justwhistledixe, a multiple graded stakes winner who competed under the black and gold silks. Her only other foal to race is 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day.
