Some electrifying news ahead of Saturday’s Preakness Stakes: West Point Thoroughbreds is thrilled to announce a merchandise collaboration with the legendary rock band Metallica, centered around our very own Sandman.

This is a direct result of the band’s enthusiasm for the colt named after their epic song Enter Sandman. During Derby Week at Churchill Downs, lead singer James Hetfield paid a visit to Sandman at the track. He spent time with the horse, met WPT CEO Terry Finley and trainer Mark Casse, greeted the jockeys, and embraced the connection with genuine excitement and curiosity.

It is clear the band sees something special in Sandman, and they’re eager to channel that energy into a merchandise collaboration. Proceeds will benefit Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and West Point’s Black and Gold Fund for racehorse retirement.
