Sorcerer’s Silver put on a show at Gulfstream Park on Thursday and improved to 2-for-2 for trainer Dale Romans and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.
The 3-year-old colt sat off a pacesetter and then made his move, with track announcer Pete Aillo’s calling it: “In the West Point gold it’s Sorcerer’s silver setting sail for the money!”
Sorcerer’s Silver drew off to score by 7 lengths, acing his first try against winners and following up on a maiden romp by 8 1/4 lengths on February 1.
“He did it easy,” Irad said. “We have some more horse there.”
Sorcerer’s Silver will likely move up to a stakes test next time out.
“It was great to hear Irad after getting off the horse say, ‘We’re ready to take on the big boys,’” West Point Thoroughbreds CEO Terry Finley said. “I don’t want to sound like an amateur, but if you can’t dream with a horse like this, you probably don’t belong owning horses.”
West Point and Domeyko Taylor acquired Sorcerer’s Silver for $130,000 as a 2-year-old at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale.
