Sorcerer’s Silver Shines in Debut / Friday, February 7, 2025

A 3-year-old who had commanded attention with a sharp string of workouts, Sorcerer’s Silver used his speed early and was too much to handle in the stretch at Gulfstream Park, drawing off impressively in a debut win Saturday against Florida-breds.

Red-hot trainer Dale Romans was confident, telling jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. in the paddock that the colt “will not get beat.” Sorcerer’s Silver broke well and took control right away.

“The only thing that concerned me was how he would break, and when he broke clean from the outside and went head-and-head I thought, ‘They’re not going to be able to keep up,’” Romans said. “I wanted him to go fast because I know he can keep going. I didn’t know if they could.”

West Point and Domeyko Taylor acquired Sorcerer’s Silver for $130,000 as a 2-year-old at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale.
